SHIPPING and DELIVERY:

Q: How much do you charge for shipping?
A: We use an online calculator. The calculator factors quantity of items, size, weight, volume, and shipping address in order to finalize a specific cost to ship your items. Enter the items you wish to purchase, and on the shipping page/screen, you'll have a few options to choose from, i.e., FedEx, USPS, etc. The shipping cost/s will show to the right for each of these options. You have the option to use your own shipper account...please call or email to make arrangements.

Q: Can I have an item shipped via air freight?
A: Yes. You should, however, call to verify and provide specifics.

Q: What ships faster, kits or completed houses?
A: Basic Kits ship the soonest (usually within a day or two). Deluxe Kits and Assembled Houses can take up to 10 days to ship if not in stock.

Q: Who ships faster, FedEx or the Postal Service?
A: FedEx standard "Home Delivery" or "Ground" service is usually two to five business days, but their "SmartPost" is two to eight business days.  The US Postal Service claims one to three days when using their "Priority Mail" service.  Please note that "Standard Post" on our website/web store is "SmartPost," which is a combination of FedEx and the US Postal Service (two to eight days).

Q: How soon can I have an item shipped to me?

A: It depends ... in-stock items will be shipped immediately while others may have to be built. Non-stock houses are built frequently and will be shipped as soon as they are completed (usually no more than five to seven days).

Q: Do I have to sign for my shipment?
A: No, we send all shipments with NO signature required unless the customer specifically requests that a signature is required (an extra fee/charge may be required for this service, as well as additional shipping charges/method of delivery).

Q: Do you ship internationally?
A: The only international shipments that we currently offer are to our northern neighbors of Canada. If your order is larger than 100 pieces/items, we may ship to other countries...but only after all payments are made and cleared.

Q: I selected "Local Pick-up, so where in my area do I pick up?
A: Nowhere. "Local Pick-up" means local to our shop in Tacoma, Washington. If you choose this option, you, the customer are responsible to make arrangements of pick-up. If you made a mistake, it's okay. We can change the order to ship the product to your location (shipping charges will apply, but the pick-up fee will be credited/reimbursed).

Q: I ordered assembled houses and your shipping seems high. Why?
A: Shipping charges are more for assembled houses, because of the greater volume and extra weight of the shipping material/box.

Q: Christmas/the birthday is only a few days away, can I get it in time?
A: Depends on many things, i.e., your location, stock/availability, your chosen method of shipping and how much you're willing to pay for air freight. If it's a huge priority to get it in time, you may want to call/email before ordering.

Q: Here's my zip, how much is shipping?
A: There is no way to calculate the shipping with just your zip code. We need the exact number and model of products on the order, your COMPLETE mailing address, and requested method of shipping.

Q: Unfortunately I procrastinated and need them yesterday, now what?
A: If you can get here, we'll work with you in an attempt to save your bacon.  If you're too far away, place the order and re-schedule your event.  Or...if it's a birthday gift, etc., you could place the order, print the product page, and put it inside the birthday card with a note that says, "it's on the way."

Q: I ordered, so what is my tracking number?
A: When your order ships, you'll get an email notice that states just that. The tracking number is on that email, to the right of the products you had ordered.

Q: I was going to order a lot of stuff, but the shipping seems too high, why?
A: Wood is heavy, fuel is expensive, and maybe you live off the beaten path.  All of these factors, as well as many others, determine shipping costs.

Q: Who do you use to ship the houses?
A: We ship via FedEx and the U.S. Post Office (we prefer to use FedEx Home Delivery). "Standard Post can be either the USPS standard post or FedEx Smart Post, which is delivered by the US Postal Service.

ORDERING:
Q: How soon can I have an item shipped to me?
A: If in stock, as soon as we can get it in a box and the carrier picks up the package. If not in stock, as soon as we build it (usually no more than a couple days).

Q: I want to order several kits, how much notice do you need?
A: As much notice as you can possibly give. If you're considering using birdhouses for your project/gift, let us know so we can get you on the list.  Orders are processed, first-come, first-served.

Q: I don't have a confirmation/order number, did my order go through?
A: Send us your name and when you placed the order, or thought you placed the order, and we'll look it up for you.

PRICING:
Q: Which methods of payment do you accept?
A. We accept VISA, MasterCard, American Express, PayPal, Money Orders, Cashier's Checks, Business Checks, Personal Checks, Official Purchase Orders (Requires prior approval/credit inquiry), and good old- fashioned cash (although not recommended for mailing).

Q: Do you sell wholesale to retailers?
A: Yes, but the volume/bulk prices posted on each product page apply. If you're wanting quantities greater than what's posted, call or email and we'll talk.

Q: I want to buy a lot, do you have volume pricing?
A: Yes, volume/bulk prices are posted on each product page.

Q: Do you charge sales tax on birdhouse orders?
A: We charge sales tax on all orders mailed within the State of Washington only, unless a tax-exempt certification is filled out, signed, and mailed/faxed to us.

Q: Can I mix and match to get the volume pricing?

A: If you're going to purchase at least six of each model, and at least 36 total products, yes, we will give you a coupon code that will apply an additional discount. Call or email for the code.

Q: Do you have any coupons or promotion codes?
A: At times, we have coupon codes, which will be posted throughout the website/web store.  Also, we offer a 10% discount to active-duty military. To receive a coupon code for the military discount, fax or email a copy of your military ID and driver's license. The shipping name and address must match to receive the discount.

Q: Do you match competitors' prices?
A: No, we don't have any competitors that have comparable products to match. Unfortunately, we cannot offer an adequately-sized western red cedar birdhouse for the same price as an under-sized plywood birdhouse that will probably fall apart after a few months. It's your money, be smart--buy smart.

GENERAL PRODUCT INFO:
Q: Do your birdhouses open for cleaning?
A: Yes, most basic and deluxe models have at least one opening/removable panel to allow for cleaning and removal of old nests.  Bargain birdhouses are assembled without opening panels.

Q: Can I paint or stain my birdhouse or feeder?
A: Although not recommended, yes, you can paint or stain your birdhouse.  Use an exterior paint/stain, preferably something that is non-toxic.

Q: Does the wood have any toxic treatment or sealer?
A: All of our basic and deluxe cedar birdhouses and feeders are constructed of western red cedar that DOES NOT have any treatment or sealer.  Some of the bargain houses may be constructed of Douglas Fir that was initially treated with some sort of weather-resistant stain/sealer.

Q: Why does the birdhouse on your banner have a peg for a perch?
A: Because it looks cool and represents what most people envision as a standard birdhouse.  Perch pegs are not recommended and we do not supply them. Instead, and if you must have a perch, we will include a perch block/s with your order when specifically requested in the comments field.

Q: I have my own design, will you make a kit for me?
A: It depends, if we like it and want to use it as a future product, then yes. If we don't like it, then no; however, if your order is large enough, we'll provide a quote for you to consider in your decision.

BIRDHOUSE and FEEDER KITS:
Q: What are the small blocks/pieces of wood with my kit?
A: The small blocks of wood are perch blocks and are not recommended--throw them away. If you insist on attaching them, use wood glue to attach one to two inches below the entry hole.

Q: Do your kits include glue and/or paint?
A: No, no glue and no paint or stain.

Q: What are the differences between Basic, Bargain, and Deluxe kits?
A: Please see the following page for explanations of the above: Birdhouse Kit Information Page

Q: How difficult are the kits to assemble?
A: If you're semi-skilled, they're pretty easy. Super-skilled, really easy.  No skill, doable, but you may want to have a helper nearby.  It is very common for second- and third-graders to assemble our birdhouse kits well within 45 minutes (including clean-up).

Q: Do your kits have pre-drilled nail holes?
A: No, not necessary for Western Red Cedar, which is a soft wood containing natural oils that act as a lubricant.  Predrilled nail holes are not recommended, because the assembled house will not be as sturdy as a non-predrilled house. The word, rickety, comes to mind.

Q: How old (or young) do you have to be to assemble a kit?
A: Our kits are recommended for ages six (6) and up, and have a choking hazard warning for children under three (3).  Also, on the other end of the age group, if you're not too old to accurately swing a hammer without hurting yourself or others, then you should have no problem with assembly.

Q: Why can't I find the option to get a kit with "Aged Cedar"?
A: Aged cedar/Douglas fir can be brittle and we've determined that aged kits are not good for you (or us).

Q: I have my own design, will you make a kit for me?
A: It depends, if we like it and want to use it as a future product, then yes. If we don't like it, then no; however, if your order is large enough, we'll provide a quote for you to consider in your decision.

Q: I want to order several kits, how much notice do you need?
A: As much notice as you can possibly give. If you're considering using birdhouses for your project/gift, let us know so we can get you on the list.  Orders are processed, first-come, first-served.

PROBLEMS:
Q: I received my kits, but don't have the instructions?
A: The instruction sheets are located inside the yellow nail packet--take a look inside. If they're not in there, send us a note and we'll promptly email a copy to you.

Q: My child went hammer-crazy and broke a piece, now what?
A: Put the pieces back together like a puzzle, and add an extra nail or two. Glue may help here, too.

Q: I've opened two different kits and mixed up the pieces, what do I do?
A: Open the instruction sheets and look at how the parts of each kit look. Try your best to match the parts with the images. If you're still having troubles, give us a call and maybe we can help.

Q: I lost the instructions, may I have another copy?
A: You certainly may, just send us a note with your order number and the model requested, and we'll promptly email a copy to you.

Q: Christmas/the birthday is only a few days away, can I get it in time?
A: Depends on many things, i.e., your location, stock/availability, your chosen method of shipping and how much you're willing to pay for air freight. If it's a huge priority to get it in time, you may want to call/email before ordering.

STOREFRONT / HOURS:
Q: Do you have retail stores...or a local store?
A: No, we do not have any retail stores, nor do we have a local storefront; however, orders may be picked up at our shop with prior coordination.

Q: What are your store hours?
A: Since our store is an online store, the hours are 24/7/365. If you send an email or leave a phone message, please consider that we are in the Pacific Time Zone and most messages are answered during daylight hours.

MISCELLANEOUS:
Q: Do you donate birdhouse kits to charities and non-profits?
A: At times, we donate to charities and non-profits, but these requests are many, very many.  We prefer to keep our donations local; however, we have donated to certain causes and for miscellaneous reasons.  A common suggestion that we offer is to ask your local businesses for donations of gifts, cash, etc. If you're lucky enough to get cash, you will then have the opportunity to buy birdhouse kits from any of the birdhouse kit suppliers, including us, if you so choose.

Q: Do you have a print catalog?
A: No, we do not offer a print catalog. Our entire catalog offering is posted online throughout our online store:  Birdhouse Depot

Q: I work for "XYZ Company" and I want to solicit, are you interested?
A: No, not at all. We DO NOT conduct business over the phone. Please save your time and ours by taking your telephone solicitations elsewhere.

Q: I having difficulties with your website, is it down?
A: Before you make the assumption or determination that our website is down, please clear your computer's cache and refresh the page.  We have an extremely high "up" rate, and in every case to date, it has been the customer's computer acting up.

Q: I have something remotely related to birdhouses, will you post my link?
A: No, as of this moment, we do not post links to other websites. We prefer to keep our website clean and free of advertisements, and customers favorably comment on this aspect of our website.  In the future, we may create a page just for links, but one cannot guess as to when that might be.

Q. Where did you come up with those peculiar birdhouse names?
A. All of our birdhouses and feeders are named after Washington State rivers and raft-able creeks.

Q. I want to order several kits, how much notice do you need?
A. We need as much notice as you can possibly give. The minute you decide to order, you should place your order. Prepaid orders are processed "1st come, 1st served." Please keep in mind ... spring and summer months are extremely busy and most summer projects are held in ... you guessed it ... summer. We wouldn't want your project delayed, so get those orders in early. Christmas is also a busy time, so order early.

Q. Can I offer a suggestion for a new model?
A. You certainly can. We always welcome new ideas and special requests.

Q. How do I hang my birdhouse?
A. All birdhouses with a flat back have one or more holes drilled in the back to allow simple nail hanging. The hanging birdhouses and feeders can be suspended using a metal clothes hanger, and the "overhanging" roof homes are designed to sit on a flat surface or pole. See this page for more:  General Product Information

Q. When and how do I clean or remove the nest from my birdhouse?
A. Any time after the young have left is when you should remove the vacant nest. To do this, all you need to do is open the panel and remove the nest.  For bargain models, use an old clothes hanger and "fish" out the nest. See more here: Tips and Tricks
